Description
These incredibly soft and buttery homemade rolls are the perfect accompaniment to any meal, promising pure indulgence with every tear.
Ingredients
4 cups all-purpose flour (divided)
1 packet (0.25 oz) active dry yeast
1 cup warm milk (110°F/43°C)
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
2 large eggs, room temperature
1 tsp salt
3 tbsp unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)
Instructions
In your stand mixer bowl, gently combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes until it becomes bubbly.
Add the rest of the sugar, 1/3 cup melted butter, eggs, salt, and 2 cups of flour. Mix with the dough hook until everything is beautifully smooth.
Slowly incorporate the remaining 2 cups of flour. Knead on medium speed for 5 to 7 minutes until you have a smooth and elastic dough.
Cover the bowl and let the dough rest in a cozy spot for 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
Gently punch down the dough, divide it into 12 equal portions, and arrange them in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish.
Cover the dish again and allow the rolls to rise for another 30 minutes.
Bake them in a preheated oven at 375F (190C) for 15 to 18 minutes until they turn a lovely golden brown. As soon as they’re out of the oven, brush the tops generously with the remaining 3 tablespoons of melted butter.
Notes
While these rolls are perfect as they are, you can certainly add your own special touch. Consider incorporating a tablespoon or two of finely chopped fresh herbs like rosemary or chives into the dough just before the final knead for an aromatic twist. A sprinkle of flaky sea salt over the melted butter topping just before serving can add a delightful textural contrast and pop of flavor.
