Description
This recipe delivers a perfectly cooked, tender slow cooker turkey breast with incredible ease. Succulent, juicy meat infused with aromatic herbs and spices, it’s a comforting centerpiece for any meal.
Ingredients
1 bone-in skin-on turkey breast (6–7 lbs)
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 tbsp fresh rosemary, chopped
1 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped
1 tbsp fresh sage, chopped
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 cup low-sodium chicken broth
1 yellow onion, sliced
Instructions
Gently place sliced onion on the bottom of your slow cooker and pour in the chicken broth.
Combine softened butter with rosemary, thyme, sage, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper to form a paste.
Pat your turkey breast dry and generously spread the herb butter all over the exterior and under the skin.
Place the turkey breast skin-side up in the slow cooker atop the onions.
Cover and cook on LOW for 5 to 6 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165F.
For a delightful crisp, you can optionally broil the turkey for a few minutes before carving.
Notes
Always use an instant-read thermometer to ensure your turkey is cooked to a safe and delicious 165°F. Overcooked turkey can become dry, even in a slow cooker.
Once cooked, allow the turkey to rest for about 10 to 15 minutes before carving. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat, resulting in a more succulent final product.
Make sure your butter is truly softened, not melted. This will make it easier to create a smooth paste and spread it evenly without tearing the turkey skin.
Don’t skip spreading some of the herb butter under the skin. This is where a lot of the flavor truly infuses into the breast meat itself, creating a more delicious result.
