Description
A deconstructed smash burger served in a bowl with crispy roasted potatoes, seasoned beef, melty cheese, and a tangy sauce. Fresh toppings like lettuce and tomatoes add crunch and balance for a lighter, customizable version of the classic burger. Easy to make and packed with savory, slightly sweet, and fresh flavors.
Ingredients
4 medium russet potatoes (about 400g), cubed
500g lean ground beef (or ground turkey/chicken)
1 red onion, thinly sliced
100g grated cheddar cheese (or mozzarella)
1/2 cup mayonnaise
2 tbsp ketchup
1 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tbsp finely chopped pickles (dill or sweet, drained)
1 tsp pickle juice
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp paprika
Salt and black pepper to taste
Handful of fresh iceberg lettuce, shredded
1 medium tomato, diced
1/2 cup gherkins (dill or sweet), halved
1 tbsp olive oil
Instructions
Preheat oven to 220°C (425°F) or 200°C (400°F) for fan-forced ovens
Spread cubed potatoes on baking sheets in a single layer; drizzle with olive oil and season with salt, black pepper, and paprika
Toss potatoes together, ensuring even coating
Bake for 40 minutes, stirring halfway for even crispiness
In a skillet over medium heat, cook red onion in olive oil until translucent
dd ground beef; smash it into the skillet, breaking it apart into a thin patty. Season with salt, pepper, and garlic powder
Cook beef until seared, browned, and no longer pink (8-10 minutes)
Mix mayonnaise, ketchup, Dijon mustard, chopped pickles, and pickle juice into a creamy sauce
Sprinkle cheese over the hot beef and let it melt (2-3 minutes)
Assemble the bowl by layering roasted potatoes, then cooked beef with melted cheese, followed by lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, and gherkin
Drizzle with burger sauce and serve immediately
Notes
Use sweet potatoes for a caramelized twist
Grilled zucchini or avocado make excellent non-traditional toppings
Leftover sauce stores well in the fridge for up to 5 days
Let beef rest 2-3 minutes after cooking for juicier results
