Description
Discover your new weeknight favorite with this incredibly simple sausage and cabbage skillet meal. It’s a hearty, flavorful dish that comes together in just one pan, making cleanup a breeze.
Ingredients
1 lb smoked turkey sausage or beef sausage, sliced into 1/2-inch coins
1 small head green cabbage, chopped
2 tbsp olive oil
1 small yellow onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp smoked paprika
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
Instructions
Warm 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced sausage and cook for about 5-6 minutes until it’s nicely browned. Remove the sausage from the skillet and set it aside on a plate.
Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the skillet. Then, add the diced onion and minced garlic, cooking for about 2 minutes until they smell lovely and fragrant.
Stir in the chopped green cabbage, garlic powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix everything together well.
Cover the skillet with a lid, lower the heat to medium-low, and let it cook for 10-12 minutes until the cabbage is tender.
Return the browned sausage to the skillet. Stir in the apple cider vinegar and cook for another 2 minutes, just until everything is heated through, then serve.
Notes
Adjust the cooking time for the cabbage based on your preference. If you like it softer, let it cook a few minutes longer. For a bit more bite, reduce the time slightly.
Ensure your skillet is hot enough before adding the sausage, and don’t overcrowd the pan. This will help achieve that lovely golden-brown crust.
Sautéing the onions and garlic until fragrant before adding the cabbage builds a delicious base layer of flavor for the entire dish.
Adding the vinegar at the end helps its bright, tangy flavor shine through without cooking off completely.
