Seven Layer Dip

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 8-10 servings 1x

Description

This classic Seven Layer Dip is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser, a vibrant tapestry of textures and flavors that perfectly balances creamy, savory, and fresh elements. It’s the ultimate appetizer for any gathering, offering a delightful journey through delicious layers that will have everyone reaching for more.

Ingredients

Scale

16 ounces salsa ((mild, medium, or hot))
15.4 ounces refried beans
8 ounces cream cheese ((1 brick))
3/4 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
16 ounces guacamole
1 1/2 cups finely shredded cheese ((preferably sharp cheddar or Mexican blend))
1/4 cup sliced black olives ((optional))
3 tablespoons sliced green onions

Instructions

Drain excess liquid from salsa using a fine mesh sieve.

In a bowl, mix refried beans with a little of the reserved salsa liquid to make them more spreadable.

Spread the bean mixture evenly in the bottom of an 8-inch square dish.

Combine cream cheese, sour cream, chili powder, cumin, and garlic powder in a bowl and mix until smooth.

Spread the cream cheese mixture over the refried beans.

Layer guacamole over the cream cheese mixture.

Spread the drained salsa over the guacamole.

Top with shredded cheese, sliced olives, and green onions.

Notes

Don’t skip draining the salsa. Excess liquid is the enemy of a well-structured layered dip.

Make sure your cream cheese is truly softened to room temperature for the creamiest, smoothest texture in your cheese layer.

Take your time spreading each layer evenly. This ensures that every scoop gets a taste of all the wonderful components.

When adding the guacamole and salsa, be gentle to avoid disturbing the layers beneath. A spatula or the back of a spoon works wonderfully.

Add the green onions and olives just before serving for the freshest flavor and most appealing presentation.
