The combination of textures and flavors is simply irresistible, making it perfect for feeding a crowd or enjoying a comforting meal any day of the week.
Ingredients
16 ounce can jumbo buttermilk biscuits
1 pound hot sausage, cooked and crumbled
2 cups shredded colby and monterey jack cheeses
6 large eggs
½ cup milk
salt and pepper (a pinch of each should work but add more to your preference)
2.75 ounce packet country sausage gravy (plus more for serving, optional)
2 cups water (or milk)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 350F. Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Cut each biscuit into eighths. Arrange the biscuit pieces in the bottom of the dish.
Sprinkle cooked and crumbled sausage over the biscuits, followed by shredded cheese.
In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture over the cheese.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the sausage gravy packet with water or milk. Pour the gravy over the egg mixture.
Cover the dish and bake for 45-55 minutes, or until the biscuits are cooked through. If needed, remove the cover and bake a bit longer.
Serve with extra gravy, if you like.
Notes
For added flavor, season the sausage while it’s cooking.
Don’t overbake. The bake is ready when the eggs are set and the biscuits are golden.
Let the bake cool slightly before slicing and serving, to allow the ingredients to settle and make for cleaner cuts.
If your biscuits are browning too quickly, you can loosely tent the baking dish with foil during the last 15 minutes of baking.
For a fluffier texture, use room temperature eggs.
