Jalapeno Popper Dip Bread Bowl

Jalapeno Popper Dip Bread Bowl

  • Total Time: 60 minutes
  • Yield: 1 bread bowl 1x

Description

A warm, bubbly, and zesty Jalapeno Popper Dip served inside a rustic, crusty bread bowl, featuring a buttery panko topping.

Ingredients

Scale

6 oz / 180g Philadelphia cream cheese (at room temperature)
1/3 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 tsp cumin powder
1/2 tsp each onion powder and garlic powder (or 1 tsp of one of these)
3/4 cup grated cheddar cheese (or tasty, Monterey Jack or other flavoured cheese)
3/4 cup grated Mozzarella Cheese
3/4 – 1 cup canned jalapeños (drained and finely chopped)
1/2 tsp salt
Pepper
1 Cob Bread (round loaf 25cm / 10″ diameter) (optional)
1 tbsp butter (melted)
1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 180C/350F.

2. Take the top off the round loaf of bread. Use a small knife to cut a ring around the inside edge and remove the bread from the center, creating a bowl shape and leaving a 1cm / 1/2″ border. Place the bread bowl on a piece of foil.

3. In a bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, and sour cream. Stir in the cumin powder, onion powder, garlic powder, cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, chopped jalapeos, salt, and pepper. Mix everything until well combined. Spoon the dip into the prepared bread bowl.

4. In a small bowl, mix together the melted butter and panko breadcrumbs. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the top of the dip.

5. Wrap the bread bowl securely in the foil. Bake for 30 minutes. Then, unroll the foil edges to expose the top and bake for another 10 to 15 minutes, or until the panko is golden brown, the dip is bubbling, and the bread is golden. You can test if it’s hot by inserting a knife into the center.

6. Serve warm with corn chips and pieces of the bread that were removed from the bowl (you can toast these if you like).

Notes

Room temperature ingredients are the secret to a smooth dip. If your cream cheese is too cold, it will be difficult to mix, leaving lumps in your filling.

Don’t discard the bread you scooped out. It is perfect for serving alongside the bowl, especially if you toast it lightly in the oven while the dip finishes baking.

The foil wrap is crucial during the first half of the baking time as it helps the bread soften and the flavors meld without burning the crust.
