Hot Honey Shrimp

Hot Honey Shrimp

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 2-4 servings 1x

Description

Get ready for a flavor explosion with this incredibly quick and easy Hot Honey Shrimp! This dish is a perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and savory, creating a taste sensation that’s both exciting and comforting. It’s the ideal weeknight meal when you’re craving something delicious but short on time.

Ingredients

Scale

1 pound uncooked shrimp (peeled and deveined (tails on or off – your choice!))
salt and pepper
1 tablespoon olive oil (or garlic herb butter or sesame oil)
3 tablespoons hot honey
1 tablespoon soy sauce (see notes for gluten-free option)
1 clove garlic (minced (or 1/4 tsp garlic powder))
1 tablespoon lime juice ((from 1/2 lime))
Chopped scallions for garnish, rice & veggies for serving, or tortillas and guacamole

Instructions

Lightly season the shrimp with salt and pepper.
Whisk together the hot honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, and lime juice in a small bowl to create the sauce.
Heat a large skillet over high heat and add the olive oil. Add the shrimp and sear for 1 minute on one side.
Pour in the hot honey sauce, then flip the shrimp and cook for another minute, or until done.
Remove the shrimp from the skillet. Optionally, simmer the sauce for a minute to thicken it.
Top the shrimp with the sauce, and garnish with chopped scallions or cilantro, adding extra hot honey if desired.

Notes

Don’t overcrowd the pan when searing the shrimp! If your skillet isn’t large enough for all the shrimp to be in a single layer, cook them in batches. This ensures they sear beautifully instead of steaming.

Shrimp cook very quickly. Keep a close eye on them; they’re done when they turn pink and opaque and curl into a ‘C’ shape. An overcooked shrimp will be tough and rubbery.

While we’re using high heat for searing, be mindful of your stove. If the sauce starts to burn before the shrimp are cooked, you can briefly reduce the heat.

Make sure your skillet is nice and hot *before* adding the shrimp. A shimmering oil or hot butter indicates it’s ready for that perfect, quick sear.

The optional sauce simmering step is great for achieving a thicker glaze, but if you prefer a lighter sauce, feel free to skip it. The flavor is already incredible!
