Honey Walnut Baked Brie Bites

Honey Walnut Baked Brie Bites

  • Total Time: 23-25 minutes
  • Yield: 15 bites

Description

These delightful little bites are an explosion of sweet, savory, and creamy flavors, all nestled within a delicate, crisp shell. They are the perfect appetizer for any gathering, offering a warm and inviting taste that will have your guests reaching for more.

Ingredients

• 1 package (15 count) mini phyllo pastry shells
• 1 wheel (8 oz) Brie cheese, rind trimmed and cut into small 1/2-inch cubes
• 1/3 cup pure honey
• 1/3 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
• 1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves
• Flaky sea salt for dusting

Instructions

Prepare your oven to 350F (175C) and line up the mini phyllo shells on a baking sheet.

Carefully place a small piece of Brie cheese into each phyllo shell.

Sprinkle a little bit of chopped walnuts over each cheese piece.

Bake for about 8 to 10 minutes, or until the pastry shells are nicely crisp and the Brie is fully melted.

Take the bites out of the oven and arrange them on a lovely serving platter.

Drizzle a generous amount of warm honey over every bite, add fresh thyme leaves and a delicate sprinkle of flaky sea salt, then serve right away while warm.

Notes

These pre-made shells are a lifesaver for busy hosts! They provide a wonderful crispy texture and a convenient vessel for our creamy filling. Look for them in the frozen section of your grocery store.

The star of the show! When baked, Brie becomes incredibly smooth and decadent. Ensure you trim off the rind if you prefer a less pungent flavor, though some enjoy its earthy notes.

Opt for a good quality pure honey. Its natural sweetness will balance the richness of the Brie beautifully.

Both offer a lovely crunch and nutty depth. Toasting them lightly beforehand can enhance their flavor even further, though it’s not strictly necessary for this recipe.

A hint of fresh thyme adds a sophisticated, aromatic quality that complements the honey and cheese wonderfully.

This is for finishing, adding little pops of saltiness that highlight all the other flavors.

While these Honey Walnut Baked Brie Bites are wonderful as is, you can certainly personalize them. For a touch of fruitiness, consider adding a tiny dollop of fig jam or cranberry sauce before baking. A sprinkle of red pepper flakes can introduce a gentle warmth for those who enjoy a little heat. If walnuts aren’t your favorite, slivered almonds or even a few toasted pumpkin seeds would offer a delightful textural contrast.

While it’s tempting to pack the phyllo shells to the brim, overfilling can cause the cheese to ooze out too much during baking, potentially making a mess and reducing the creamy center in some bites.

Phyllo pastry can brown quickly. Keep an eye on your bites during the last few minutes of baking to ensure the shells become golden and crisp without burning.

These baked brie bites are truly at their best when served immediately. The magic is in that warm, molten Brie and the contrast with the crisp shell.

Use a small spoon or your fingertips (carefully!) to place the Brie pieces into the shells. For the walnuts, a small spoon or even a gentle pinch works well.
