Description
Take all the iconic flavors of a classic Philly cheesesteak and turn them into a quick, budget-friendly weeknight meal. Savory browned ground beef, sautéed onions, and green peppers are enveloped in a velvety, melted provolone and cream cheese sauce.
Ingredients
For the Beef Mixture
- 2 lbs ground beef (lean)
- 1 green bell pepper (chopped), 1 sweet yellow onion (chopped)
- 1.5 tsp garlic powder, 1.5 tsp salt, 0.5 tsp black pepper, 0.5 tsp onion powder
For the Cheese Sauce
- 6 oz provolone cheese (diced/shredded)
- 4 oz cream cheese (room temp), 2 tbsp milk
For Serving
- 6 sub rolls (6-inch), Fresh parsley
Instructions
Brown: Sauté ground beef, onion, and bell pepper over high heat until meat is browned and veggies are soft. Drain excess fat thoroughly.
Cheese: Reduce heat to medium. Add diced provolone, cream cheese, milk, and all spices.
Simmer: Stir constantly for 3–4 minutes until cheeses melt into a thick, velvety sauce coating the beef.
Assemble: Pile the mixture into sliced sub rolls. (Optional: Top with more cheese and broil for 2-3 mins). Garnish with parsley.
Notes
Softened Cream Cheese: Use room-temperature cream cheese to ensure it emulsifies instantly into a smooth sauce without lumps.
Drain Well: Removing excess fat is crucial to keep the rolls from getting soggy and the sauce from becoming oily.
Storage: Store filling in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat on the stovetop with a splash of milk to restore creaminess.
