  • Total Time: Approximately 1 hour 5-10 minutes (plus 10 min resting)
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

Start your holiday mornings with a warm hug of flavor and comfort! This Festive Christmas Morning Breakfast Casserole is a symphony of savory sausage, crispy bacon, cheesy goodness, and fluffy eggs, all nestled atop a bed of perfectly tender hash browns. It’s the ultimate make-ahead dream for a stress-free, delicious Christmas breakfast that everyone will adore.

Ingredients

Scale

1 lb mild or hot Italian turkey sausage (or beef sausage), crumbled
6 slices turkey bacon or beef bacon, chopped
1 bag (30 oz) frozen hash browns, thawed
2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
8 large eggs
1.5 cups whole milk
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp onion powder
Salt and black pepper to taste
Sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

Prepare your oven and a baking dish by preheating to 375F (190C) and greasing.
Brown the crumbled sausage and chopped bacon in a skillet over medium heat, then drain any extra fat.
Evenly arrange the thawed hash browns in the prepared baking dish.
Sprinkle the cooked meats and shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses over the hash browns.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until blended.
Pour this egg mixture over the assembled layers in the baking dish.
Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes until the eggs are firm and the top is golden and bubbly, then let it rest for 10 minutes before garnishing with green onions and serving.

Notes

Ensure your hash browns are fully thawed before layering them. This helps them soften and absorb the egg mixture properly, preventing a mushy texture.

While we want the eggs to be set, be careful not to overbake the casserole, as this can lead to a dry texture. Keep an eye on the visual cues: firm eggs and a golden top.

A well-greased baking dish is your best friend here. It prevents sticking and makes for much easier serving and cleanup.

Seriously, don’t skip the 10-minute rest! It makes a world of difference in the final presentation and texture of your casserole.
