Description
This easy turkey chili recipe is a comforting and flavorful dish that’s perfect for a weeknight meal or a cozy gathering. Packed with wholesome ingredients and warm spices, it delivers a satisfying depth of flavor without any fuss.
Ingredients
1 Tbsp oil (I use avocado oil)
1 cup diced onion
3 cloves minced garlic
1 medium bell pepper, diced
1 pound ground turkey (93/7)
2 Tbsp chili powder
1 Tbsp cumin
1 tsp oregano
1/4 – 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
1/2 tsp salt
2 (14.5 oz cans) diced tomato (I like fire-roasted)
1 (6oz) can tomato paste
1 (14.5 oz can) kidney beans
1 (14.5 oz can) pinto beans
1 cup chicken broth
Optional toppings – cheese, sour cream, green onion, avocado, tortilla chips
Instructions
Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Saut onion, garlic, and bell pepper for 4-5 minutes.
Add ground turkey and spices. Cook until the turkey is no longer pink.
Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato paste, beans, and chicken broth.
Bring the mixture to a boil, then lower the heat and let it simmer for 35-40 minutes.
Taste and adjust seasonings, adding more chili powder or salt if needed.
Serve hot with your favorite toppings.
Notes
Don’t Overcook the Vegetables: Sauté the onions, garlic, and bell peppers just until they begin to soften. They will continue to cook in the chili.
Toast Your Spices: Cooking the spices with the turkey for a minute before adding liquids helps to release their full flavor and aroma.
Stir Occasionally: While simmering, give the chili a stir every now and then to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pot.
Adjust Thickness: If your chili seems too thick, you can add a little more chicken broth or water. If it’s too thin, you can let it simmer uncovered for the last 10–15 minutes to allow some of the liquid to evaporate.
