Easy Philly Cheesesteak Squares

  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

These Easy Philly Cheesesteak Squares capture all the delicious flavors of a classic Philly cheesesteak in a convenient, shareable form. Tender, seasoned steak meets a blanket of melted cheese, all nestled in a flaky, buttery crust.

Ingredients

Scale

1 tablespoon unsalted butter
½ cup finely diced red bell pepper
½ cup finely diced green bell pepper
1 medium yellow onion finely diced
16 oz Pillsbury crescent rolls
½ cup mayo
2 garlic cloves minced
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
¼ teaspoon kosher salt
¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
1 lb thinly sliced deli roast beef
12 slices provolone cheese
2 large eggs beaten
1 tablespoon grated parmesan cheese

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350F and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.

Saut diced peppers and onions in butter until softened, then set aside.

Unroll one can of crescent rolls and press into the baking dish, creating a small lip.

Mix mayo, minced garlic, mustard, salt, and pepper and spread over the dough.

Layer with provolone cheese, sliced roast beef, and the sauted vegetables.

Top with remaining cheese slices.

Unroll the second can of crescent rolls and place it over the filling, sealing the edges.

Brush the dough with a mix of beaten egg and parmesan cheese.

Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.

Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy.

Notes

Don’t overcrowd the skillet when browning the steak; cook in batches if necessary.

Use a sharp knife to cut the puff pastry squares to ensure a clean cut.

For the best results, use a meat thermometer to make sure the internal temperature of the steak has reached a safe level.

Let the squares cool for a few minutes before serving.

Serve them immediately for the best texture, but they can also be reheated.
