Description
Indulge in the simple elegance of homemade chocolate covered strawberries, a treat that’s as delightful to make as it is to devour. These berries offer a perfect harmony of sweet, juicy fruit and rich, decadent chocolate, making them an irresistible classic.
Ingredients
10 ounce package Ghirardelli Baking Chips (Bittersweet, semi-sweet, or milk chocolate (285 g))
2 pounds fresh strawberries (stems attached)
Instructions
Wash the strawberries and dry them thoroughly. Ensure they are completely dry, as moisture can prevent the chocolate from adhering properly.
Prepare your desired toppings on small plates and line a baking sheet with parchment or waxed paper.
Melt the chocolate using a double boiler or in the microwave, heating in 30-second intervals and stirring between each until smooth and fully melted. Be careful not to burn the chocolate.
Holding each strawberry by the stem, dip it into the melted chocolate, lift, and twist slightly to allow excess chocolate to drip off. If using toppings, dip the chocolate-coated strawberry into your chosen additions, then place it on the prepared baking sheet.
For a decorative touch, drizzle melted white chocolate over the dipped strawberries using a fork.
Refrigerate the strawberries for about 15 minutes, or until the chocolate coating has set.
Notes
Using good quality chocolate chips will result in a smoother melt and a richer flavor for your dipped strawberries.
Whether using a double boiler or microwave, be gentle with the chocolate. Overheated chocolate can become thick and grainy.
I cannot stress this enough. Thoroughly drying your strawberries is the secret to preventing the chocolate from sliding off or looking splotchy.
Once the chocolate is melted, work at a comfortable pace to dip your strawberries. If it starts to thicken too much, you can gently rewarm it for a few seconds.
