Description
This easy banana pudding recipe creates a creamy, dreamy dessert with layers of sweet vanilla wafers, fresh bananas, and a luscious pudding filling. It’s a perfect make-ahead treat for any occasion.
Ingredients
2 cups cold milk
1 (5 ounce) package instant vanilla pudding mix
1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 (12 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
1 (16 ounce) package vanilla wafers
14 bananas, sliced
Instructions
Combine cold milk and instant vanilla pudding mix in a large bowl. Whisk for 2 minutes, then whisk in the sweetened condensed milk until the mixture is smooth.
Stir in the vanilla extract. Gently fold in the thawed frozen whipped topping until just combined.
Slice the bananas just before assembling. Set aside a few vanilla wafers for the topping. Arrange a layer of the remaining vanilla wafers in the bottom of a large glass serving bowl. Add a layer of banana slices, followed by a layer of the pudding mixture. Repeat these layers, finishing with the pudding mixture.
For optimal results, chill the pudding in the refrigerator for a minimum of 1 hour before serving. Garnish with extra crushed wafers right before serving.
Enjoy your homemade banana pudding!
Notes
Don’t skimp on the whisking time for the instant pudding; it’s crucial for a smooth, lump-free texture.
When adding the whipped topping, use a spatula and a gentle folding motion to incorporate it without deflating its volume.
While you can adjust the number of layers, ensuring a good balance of wafers, bananas, and pudding in each section makes for the best eating experience.
Resist the urge to serve immediately. Chilling allows the flavors to meld and the wafers to soften, transforming the dessert.
