Description
This easy apple crisp recipe features tender, cinnamon-spiced apples topped with a buttery, crumbly oat topping. A comforting and delightful dessert, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
6 medium crisp apples (such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), peeled, cored, and sliced
2 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
Pinch of salt
Instructions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and prepare an 8×8 inch baking dish.
Combine the sliced apples with granulated sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice in a bowl. Spread into the prepared dish.
For the topping, mix together the oats, flour, brown sugar, remaining cinnamon, and salt in another bowl.
Cut in the cold butter until the mixture is crumbly.
Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, until the topping is golden and the apples are bubbly.
Serve warm.
Notes
Slicing your apples to a consistent thickness ensures they all cook evenly. Aim for about 1/4-inch slices.
When cutting in the butter, resist the urge to overwork the mixture. A crumbly texture is exactly what you’re aiming for.
Keep an eye on the crisp as it bakes. The apples should be tender when pierced with a fork, and the topping should be golden. If the topping starts to brown too quickly, you can loosely tent the dish with foil.
Allowing the apple crisp to rest for about 10-15 minutes after it comes out of the oven will help the filling set slightly, making it easier to serve.
