Creamy Brigadeiro Oatmeal

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings 1x

Description

Start your day with a hug in a bowl! This Creamy Brigadeiro Oatmeal combines the comforting warmth of oatmeal with the irresistible sweetness of Brazil’s beloved brigadeiro candy. It’s a decadent yet surprisingly easy breakfast that feels like a special treat. Imagine a bowl brimming with luscious, creamy oatmeal swirled with rich chocolate and condensed milk flavors, topped with sprinkles and perhaps a touch of melted chocolate.

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats (do not use quick or steel-cut oats)
2 cups whole milk (or oat milk for extra creaminess)
2 tablespoons high-quality unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk (plus extra for drizzling)
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
1/8 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons chocolate sprinkles (traditional Brigadeiro garnish)
Fresh strawberries for serving (optional)

Instructions

In a saucepan, combine milk and oats. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.

Reduce heat to medium-low and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring often, until oats start to soften and absorb milk.

Whisk in cocoa powder and salt to fully dissolve.

Stir in sweetened condensed milk and butter.

Cook for another 2 to 3 minutes on low heat, stirring constantly, until thick, creamy, and glossy like Brigadeiro fudge.

Remove from heat once desired thickness is reached.

Pour the oatmeal into bowls.

Drizzle with extra sweetened condensed milk if you like.

Top generously with chocolate sprinkles.

Serve hot, with sliced strawberries on the side if desired.

Notes

Don’t Rush the Cooking: While this is a quick recipe, allowing the oats to simmer and absorb the liquid for the full cooking time will result in the creamiest, most satisfying oatmeal.

Adjust Consistency: If you find your oatmeal is too thick, you can easily stir in a little extra milk (or water) until it reaches your preferred consistency. If it’s too thin, let it simmer for another minute or two.

Sweetness Level: The sweetness comes primarily from the condensed milk. If you prefer a less sweet breakfast, you can reduce the condensed milk slightly, but be aware this might also affect the creaminess.

Quality of Cocoa: Using a good quality unsweetened cocoa powder will make a noticeable difference in the depth of the chocolate flavor.
