These Chili Cheese Dogs are a guaranteed crowd-pleaser, delivering a symphony of savory flavors and satisfying textures in every bite.
Ingredients
8 hot dog buns
8 hot dogs pre-cooked
1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
1 tbsp parsley chopped, optional
Chili
1/2 tbsp cooking oil
1 white onion diced
4 cloves garlic minced
1 lbs lean ground beef
14 oz crushed tomatoes
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tbsp chili powder
2 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp salt + more to taste
1/2 tsp black pepper
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350.
In a pot, heat the cooking oil. Add the diced onion, cook until softened.
Add the ground beef, breaking it apart until its no longer pink.
Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, chili powder, smoked paprika, ground cumin, and minced garlic. Cook until the sauce thickens.
Season with salt and pepper.
Line hot dog buns on a baking sheet. Place a hot dog in each bun.
Top with chili and shredded cheese.
Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese melts.
Garnish with optional diced onions and parsley. Serve and enjoy.
Notes
For the best results, use fresh buns. They’ll toast up perfectly, and the dogs will be great.
If your chili is very thick, you may want to add a splash of water to thin it slightly.
If you don’t have a broiler, you can heat the dogs in a skillet over medium heat, rotating them until heated through, about 5 minutes.
Keep a close eye on the hot dogs and buns when broiling, as they can burn quickly.
