Description
Classic Snickerdoodle Cookie Recipe – A beloved treat, known for their wonderfully chewy texture and a delightful tang from cream of tartar, all enveloped in a sweet cinnamon-sugar coating.
Ingredients
• 2.75 cups all-purpose flour
• 2 tsp cream of tartar
• 1 tsp baking soda
• 1/2 tsp salt
• 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
• 1.5 cups granulated sugar
• 2 large eggs
• 2 tsp vanilla extract
• 3 tbsp granulated sugar (for rolling)
• 1 tbsp ground cinnamon (for rolling)
Instructions
To begin, preheat your oven to 375F (190C) and prepare two large baking sheets by lining them with parchment paper.
In a bowl, combine the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda, and salt.
In a separate large bowl, cream together the softened butter and 1.5 cups of granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy.
Next, beat in the eggs one by one, followed by the vanilla extract.
Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until a soft dough takes shape.
In a small bowl, blend the 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar with the 1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon.
Shape the dough into 1.5-inch balls, coat them generously in the cinnamon-sugar mixture, and place them on the prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart.
Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges appear set.
Allow the cookies to cool on a wire rack.
Notes
Soften Your Butter Properly: Room temperature butter is crucial for creaming. It should yield to gentle pressure but not be melted or greasy. This helps create that light, airy base for your cookie dough.
Don’t Overmix the Dough: Once you add the dry ingredients to the wet, mix only until just combined. Overmixing can develop the gluten in the flour, resulting in tougher cookies.
Evenly Sized Cookies: Using a cookie scoop or measuring them out ensures that all your snickerdoodles bake evenly, preventing some from being overdone while others are undercooked.
Cooling is Key: Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before moving them to a wire rack. This initial cooling period on the warm pan helps them set properly without breaking.
