Cinnamon Roll Casserole

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

A decadent and easy breakfast casserole featuring cinnamon-infused refrigerated dough soaked in a rich custard and topped with a tangy icing glaze.

Ingredients

Scale

2 (7.3-ounce) cans refrigerated cinnamon rolls (or rhodes pack), reserving icing packages
4 large eggs
1/2 cup half-and-half (heavy cream, or whole milk)
2 Tablespoons maple syrup
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)
2 Tablespoons sour cream

Instructions

1. Preheat your oven to 375F and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.

2. Cut the refrigerated cinnamon rolls into quarters and set the icing packets aside.

3. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, half-and-half, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until thoroughly combined.

4. Dip each cinnamon roll piece into the egg mixture, ensuring all sides are coated, and place them into the prepared baking dish. Pour any remaining egg mixture over the pieces. If desired, sprinkle chopped pecans on top.

5. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the casserole is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let it cool slightly.

6. While the casserole is baking, stir together the sour cream and reserved icing packets in a small bowl until smooth.

7. Drizzle the warm icing mixture over the casserole and serve immediately.

Notes

Use Room Temperature Ingredients: If you have time, let your eggs and half-and-half sit on the counter for 15 minutes before mixing. This allows the custard to emulsify more smoothly.

Watch the Edges: Since oven temperatures can vary, start checking your casserole at the 25-minute mark. You want the edges to be a beautiful golden brown without over-baking the center.

Don’t Overcrowd: Arrange the pieces in a single layer or slightly overlapping in the 9×13 dish so that they have enough room to puff up as they bake.

Let it Rest: Letting the casserole cool for 5 minutes before drizzling with the glaze helps the custard set, making it easier to serve.
