Brown Butter Pecan Pie Perfection

Brown Butter Pecan Pie Perfection

  • Total Time: Approximately 2 hours 20 minutes (plus cooling)
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

Elevate your classic pecan pie with the rich, nutty depth of brown butter for a filling that’s incredibly smooth and wonderfully complex. This recipe creates a golden-brown perfection with a flaky pastry cradling a decadent filling studded with crunchy pecans, all kissed with the irresistible aroma of toasted butter.

Ingredients

Scale

1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
3/4 cup dark corn syrup
3 large eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp salt
1.5 cups pecan halves

Instructions

Prepare your oven to 350F (175C) and place the pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish.
Gently melt the unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Swirl it constantly for about 4-5 minutes until it turns a lovely golden brown with a nutty aroma. Take it off the heat and let it cool for 5 minutes.
In a mixing bowl, combine the packed dark brown sugar, dark corn syrup, large eggs, vanilla extract, and salt. Whisk them together.
Gradually whisk the slightly cooled browned butter into the sugar mixture until it’s wonderfully smooth.
Gently stir in the pecan halves. Pour this delicious filling into your unbaked pie crust, arranging the pecans on top just so.
Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the center is beautifully set and the edges are puffed. Allow it to cool completely on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before slicing and enjoying.

Notes

Watch the butter closely when browning. It can go from perfectly browned to burnt very quickly. Stay attentive and swirl the pan constantly to ensure even heating.

Don’t overfill the pie crust, as this can lead to overflow during baking. Leave a little room at the top.

The center of the pie should look set but might have a very slight wobble when testing for doneness. Avoid overbaking.

Resist the urge to slice into the pie too soon. The 2-hour cooling period is essential for the filling to set to that perfect gooey consistency.
