Description

The ultimate morning treat, offering a soft, buttery sponge topped with an exceptionally generous layer of cinnamon-spiced crumbles. Using a clever shortcut for bakery-quality results, this cake features a thick, golden crumb topping that rivals the cake itself.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Cake Base

  • 2 1/2 cups Bisquick mix (fluffed and leveled)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 2/3 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup salted butter (melted), 2 eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla, 1/4 tsp cinnamon

For the Extra-Thick Crumb Topping

  • 1/2 cup salted butter (melted)
  • 2 cups Bisquick mix, 2/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

Prep: Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease an 8×8 or 9×9-inch pan.

Batter: Combine Bisquick, sugar, milk, melted butter, eggs, vanilla, and cinnamon. Beat until smooth (batter will be thick). Spread into the pan.

Crumble: In a medium bowl, stir melted butter, Bisquick, brown sugar, and cinnamon with a fork until large, distinct crumbs form.

Bake: Sprinkle crumbs evenly over the batter, gently pressing them into the surface. Bake for 45–50 mins until a toothpick is clean.

Set: Cool completely in the pan to ensure the heavy crumb topping stays attached when sliced.

Notes

Measure Correctly: Do not pack the Bisquick! Fluff with a spoon and level off. Packing the mix leads to a dry, dense cake.

Topping Ratio: This recipe has a very high volume of crumble. It may seem excessive during assembly, but it bakes down into a professional, thick-style layer.

Milk Choice: Whole milk provides the essential fats for a moist crumb; using lower-fat milk will result in a drier texture.
