Description
These adorable mummy hot dogs are a delightful combination of savory hot dogs wrapped in flaky, golden crescent dough, making them the perfect whimsical snack for any occasion, especially Halloween.
Ingredients
• 10 beef or turkey hot dogs
• 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
• 1 tbsp yellow mustard or mayonnaise (for eyes)
• 2 tbsp melted butter
Instructions
First, preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Next, unroll the crescent dough and seal the perforations to form rectangles. Cut the dough into thin strips.
Wrap the hot dogs with the dough strips to resemble mummy bandages, leaving a space for the face.
Brush the wrapped hot dogs with melted butter and bake for 13 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
Let them cool slightly, then add mustard or mayonnaise for the eyes before serving.
Notes
Seal those seams: When you’re forming the dough into rectangles, make sure to pinch those perforations together firmly so you have a nice, unified piece of dough to work with.
Dough thickness: Cut your dough strips to a consistent width. This ensures that the “bandages” cook evenly and look uniform on your mummies.
Cooling is key: Letting the hot dogs cool slightly before adding the “eyes” prevents the mustard or mayonnaise from becoming too runny and sliding off.
Watch for golden brown: Keep a close eye on your mummy hot dogs during the last few minutes of baking. They can go from perfectly golden to overdone quite quickly.
