Description
A stunning, centerpiece-worthy tart that celebrates spring. Flaky puff pastry is topped with a rich garlic and herb cheese blend, sharp Swiss, and tender asparagus spears. Finished with a balsamic glaze, it’s a sophisticated yet simple gourmet experience.
Ingredients
The Pastry & Cheese Base
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed but chilled
- 6.5 oz garlic & herb spreadable cheese
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 cup Swiss cheese, shredded
- Salt and pepper, to taste
The Topping
- 1 bunch fresh asparagus, woody ends trimmed
- Balsamic glaze, for drizzling
Instructions
Prep: Preheat oven to 400°F. Roll puff pastry into a 10×13-inch rectangle on a floured surface.
Pastry: Transfer to a lined sheet. Prick the surface with a fork, leaving a 1-inch border.
Filling: Mix spreadable cheese, Dijon, and Swiss. Season with salt and pepper.
Assemble: Spread cheese mixture over the pastry (within the border). Arrange asparagus spears on top.
Bake: Bake for 20–25 minutes until the border is golden brown and puffed. Drizzle with balsamic glaze before slicing.
Notes
The Chill Factor: Keep pastry cold until baking to ensure the butter doesn’t melt prematurely, which preserves the flaky layers.
Asparagus Uniformity: Slice thick spears in half lengthwise so they cook at the same rate as the pastry.
The Scoring Trick: Score a shallow line 1 inch from the edge to help the crust rise more uniformly.
