A fresh and satisfying way to enjoy classic West Coast burger flavors without the bun. Featuring juicy seasoned ground beef, crispy air-fried potatoes, and the iconic ‘Animal Style’ sauce, this bowl is piled high with sweet jammy onions and melty American cheese.
Ingredients
Burger Meat & Cheese
- 1 lb ground beef (80/20)
- 4 slices American cheese
- Seasoning: garlic powder, burger seasoning, mustard, Worcestershire, salt/pepper
The ‘Animal Style’ Sauce
- 1/2 cup mayo & 3 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp yellow mustard & 1 tsp white vinegar
- Mix-ins: pickles, 2 tbsp caramelized onions, sugar, seasonings
Bowl Base & Toppings
- 5–6 cups shredded iceberg lettuce
- 3 seasoned and air-fried russet potatoes
- Extras: Pickles, hot chili peppers, caramelized onions
Instructions
Caramelize: Sauté diced onion with oil, butter, sugar, and salt for 20–30 mins until deep golden brown. Set 2 tbsp aside for sauce.
Sauce: Whisk all sauce ingredients together and let flavors meld.
Beef: Brown ground beef with seasonings in the same skillet for 8–10 mins until charred.
Melt: Top beef with American cheese; cover for 1 min until gooey.
Assemble: Base of lettuce, topped with air-fried potatoes, pickles, peppers, onions, cheesy beef, and sauce.
Notes
Low and Slow Onions: Do not rush the caramelization; the sugar-like sweetness is the secret to authentic flavor.
Potato Prep: Soak diced potatoes in cold water for 10 mins to remove starch for maximum air-fryer crunch.
The ‘Same Pan’ Logic: Cooking beef in the onion skillet picks up the ‘fond’ for extra umami.
