Description

Unlock the secret to the juiciest, most flavorful burgers you’ve ever made with this simple three-ingredient recipe. These Lipton French Onion Soup Burgers use a packet of onion soup mix to create a rich, savory patty that’s foolproof every time. It’s the ultimate shortcut for a mouthwatering burger, perfect for a quick weeknight meal or your next backyard barbecue.

Ingredients

Scale

2 lbs 80/20 ground chuck beef
1 packet Lipton onion soup mix
1/4 cup cold water or beef stock

Instructions

Combine and Form the Patties
In a large bowl, add the ground chuck, sprinkle the Lipton onion soup mix over the top, and pour in the cold water or beef stock. Gently mix with your hands until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat. Divide the mixture into 6-8 equal portions and shape them into patties that are slightly wider than your hamburger buns. Press a shallow indent into the center of each patty with your thumb.

Cook the Burgers
Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Cook the patties for 4-6 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired doneness. Alternatively, pan-fry them in a lightly oiled skillet over medium-high heat for 4-5 minutes per side. For the last minute of cooking, add a slice of cheese to each patty to melt.

Assemble and Serve
Remove the burgers from the heat and let them rest for a minute. Toast the buns on the grill or in the pan for extra flavor. Place the cooked patties on the buns, add your favorite toppings, and serve immediately.

Notes

Don’t Overmix:
To ensure a tender and juicy burger, mix the meat and seasonings until they are just barely combined. Overworking the beef will result in a tough, dense patty.

The Thumbprint Trick:
Pressing a dimple into the center of the patty prevents it from swelling into a “meatball” shape on the grill. This helps it cook evenly and stay flat, perfect for stacking toppings.

Moisture is Key:
Adding a tablespoon of mayonnaise to the meat mixture along with the water can add extra richness and help keep the burgers incredibly moist.

Gourmet Variations:
Elevate your burger by topping it with sautéed mushrooms and Swiss cheese, or lean into the “French Onion” theme with a generous pile of slow-cooked caramelized onions and melted Provolone.

Alternative Cooking Methods:
No grill? No problem. You can cook these in an air fryer at 375°F (190°C) or bake them in an oven at 400°F (200°C) until cooked through.
