No frying, no mess—just a simple, delicious treat perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a snack. Finished with a sweet glaze, these fritters are an easy and guilt-free indulgence!

Ingredients

Scale

Fritters

  • 2 medium apples (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith), peeled and diced
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour (or whole wheat/gluten-free blend)
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup milk (dairy or non-dairy)
  • 2 large eggs (or 1 flax egg: 1 tbsp flaxseed meal + 3 tbsp water)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (or coconut oil)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice (to prevent apples from browning)

Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk (or maple syrup for variation)
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Prepare the Apples
Peel, core, and dice the apples into small, even pieces. Toss them with lemon juice to prevent browning.

  • Make the Batter
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. In another bowl, mix the milk, eggs, vanilla, and melted butter. Gradually combine the wet and dry ingredients, stirring gently. Fold in the diced apples.

  • Shape and Bake
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Drop spoonfuls of batter onto the sheet, spacing them apart. Bake for 18-20 minutes, until golden brown.

  • Prepare the Glaze
While fritters bake, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.

  • Glaze the Fritters
Let the fritters cool slightly, then drizzle with the glaze. Let set for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a caramelized apple flavor, lightly sauté the diced apples in butter and cinnamon before adding to the batter.
  • For extra crispiness, lightly spray fritters with cooking spray before baking.
  • To make these fritters vegan, use a flax egg and non-dairy milk.
