Description

Rustic dessert combining sweet baked apples with tart cranberries, topped with a buttery oat-pecan crumble. With warm cinnamon and nutmeg spices, this crisp offers a golden crunchy top and tender fruit beneath.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling
2 lbs Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, thinly sliced
¾ cup cranberries (fresh or frozen)
¼ cup white sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Topping
⅓ cup quick-cooking oats
⅓ cup all-purpose flour
½ cup packed light brown sugar
¼ cup cold butter, cut into pieces
½ cup chopped pecans

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9-inch baking dish. Toss apples, cranberries, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg until coated. Spread evenly in dish.
  2. Combine oats, flour, and brown sugar. Cut in butter until coarse crumbs form. Stir in pecans.
  3. Sprinkle topping over fruit. Bake 40–45 minutes until golden and bubbling.
  4. Cool 10 minutes. Serve warm, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

Use tart apples to balance cranberry acidity.

Add extra sugar if cranberries are very tart.

Cold butter gives crispier topping.

Frozen cranberries can be used without thawing.

Reheat leftovers in oven to restore crispness.
