Description

These Air Fryer Apple Fritters deliver all the cozy, apple-cinnamon goodness of the classic deep-fried version but in a lighter, easier-to-make package. The air fryer creates a golden, slightly crisp exterior, while the inside remains soft, fluffy, and studded with tender apple pieces. A luscious brown butter glaze adds a nutty, caramelized depth that is simply irresistible.

Ingredients

Scale

Brown Butter Glaze
1 cup Powdered Sugar
¼ cup Butter, (½ stick)
½ tsp Vanilla
1 tbsp Milk, if needed

Apple Fritters
1 ½ cups All Purpose Flour
¼ cup Granulated Sugar
2 tsp Baking Powder
½ tsp Salt
1 ½ tsp Ground Cinnamon
⅓ cup Milk
1 tsp Vanilla
1 tbsp Lemon Juice, fresh
2 Eggs
2 large Apples (such as Honey Crisp or Green Apples), peeled, cored and diced small
Canola or Vegetable Oil, for brushing/spraying

Instructions

Prepare the Fritter Batter:
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, vanilla, lemon juice, and eggs. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and stir until just combined. Fold in the diced apples.

Air Fry the Fritters:
Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Line the basket with parchment paper and lightly spray with oil. Drop the batter by ¼ cupfuls onto the parchment, leaving space between each. Lightly spray the tops with oil. Air fry for 8 minutes, then carefully flip and cook for another 1-3 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through.

Make the Brown Butter Glaze:
While the fritters cook, melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium heat. Continue to cook, swirling the pan, until the butter turns golden brown and smells nutty. Remove from heat and let cool for a minute. Whisk in the powdered sugar and vanilla until smooth, adding a tablespoon of milk if needed to reach a drizzling consistency.

Glaze and Serve:
While the fritters are still warm, drizzle or dip them in the brown butter glaze. Let the glaze set for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

Best Apples to Use:
A firm, crisp apple that holds its shape and has a good balance of sweet and tart flavors works best. Honeycrisp, Granny Smith, or Braeburn are all excellent choices.

Oven-Baked Version:
If you don’t have an air fryer, you can bake these fritters. Place scoops of batter on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake at 375°F (190°C) for about 15-20 minutes, until golden brown.

Storage:
These fritters are best enjoyed fresh. However, leftovers can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in the air fryer for a few minutes at 350°F (175°C) to crisp them up again.
